Who We Are

New Britain High School is home to four Distinguished career academies. While the district provides the foundational education, the New Britain Academies Foundation provides the "last mile" of career readiness. We bridge the gap between high school graduation and high-wage employment.

The Goal: To raise $100,000 to sustain and scale a gold-standard Work-Based Learning (WBL) ecosystem that serves as a model for urban districts nationwide. 

• The Challenge: Economic barriers often prevent high-potential students from participating in unpaid internships or accessing industry-standard technology and transportation.
• The Solution: The Foundation reduces these barriers. We provide the financial infrastructure and career experiences that connect the classroom content to a career, such as CNA and VITA, to ensure that a student’s zip code does not determine their career trajectory. Through our NAF-aligned curriculum and articulated agreements with  CT State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) we turn the traditional classroom into a professional incubator. 

• Academy of Health Sciences (Est. 2011): Addressing the healthcare nursing and tech shortage.
• Academy of Business & Finance (Est. 2013): Building the next generation of Connecticut’s financial leaders.
• Academy of Mfg., Engineering, & Technology (Est. 2018): Powering the state’s industrial resurgence.
• Academy of Public Service (Est. 2022): Cultivating first responders and educators from within our own community.
